Visit Central Park attractions
Make sure to check out the must-see attractions in Central Park, such as The Lake, Strawberry Fields, Sheep Meadow, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, Bow Bridge, Belvedere Castle, Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Alice in Wonderland sculpture, The Mall, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) with its rooftop view. These spots offer a mix of natural beauty, history, and iconic landmarks.
Follow Central Park rules
When visiting Central Park, be aware of the park rules and guidelines. Respect the designated areas for biking and walking, yield to pedestrians, obey traffic laws, and be mindful of one-way paths. If you plan to bike, remember to bring or rent a helmet, especially for children under 14.
Transportation from JFK to Manhattan
Consider the different transportation options from JFK Airport to Manhattan and choose the one that suits your budget and preferences. The subway is the most affordable but may take longer, while a taxi is convenient but expensive. The train and airport shuttle provide a balance between cost and comfort. Plan your transportation based on factors like time, luggage, convenience, and security.
Be cautious with subway cleanliness
While the New York subway system is efficient for getting around the city, be aware that it may not be the cleanest compared to other metros. Take necessary precautions, such as avoiding touching surfaces unnecessarily, using hand sanitizer, and keeping an eye on your belongings. Despite its appearance, the subway is generally safe and heavily used by locals and tourists alike.
Explore other attractions in New York
While Central Park is a highlight, don’t limit yourself to just one area. Explore other iconic attractions in New York, such as Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, High Line, One World Trade Center, Broadway shows, museums (MoMA, Guggenheim, Natural History Museum), and diverse neighborhoods like SoHo, Greenwich Village, and Williamsburg.
Check the weather and pack accordingly
Before your trip, check the weather forecast for New York during your visit. Pack appropriate clothing and footwear for the season, taking into account the potential variation in temperatures. Central Park can be a great place for a picnic or outdoor activities, so consider bringing a picnic blanket or comfortable clothes for relaxation.
Be mindful of your personal belongings
Like any popular tourist destination, it’s essential to be mindful of your personal belongings in New York City. Keep an eye on your bags, wallets, and electronic devices, especially in crowded areas. Use secure bags and pockets, and avoid displaying valuable items unnecessarily.
Use a map or navigation app
New York City can be overwhelming with its grid-like layout and busy streets. Make use of maps or navigation apps on your smartphone to navigate the city, locate attractions, and plan your routes. Apps like Google Maps, Citymapper, or the official MTA app can be helpful for navigating the subway system.
Embrace the energy and diversity of the city
New York is known for its vibrant energy and diverse culture. Embrace the hustle and bustle of the city, try different cuisines, interact with locals, and immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere. Enjoy the mix of iconic landmarks, cultural events, street performances, and the melting pot of people from all walks of life.
