Weather and Climate

According to Weather Spark, the Maldives experiences a tropical climate characterized by two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, from December to April, is marked by sunny days, low humidity, and minimal rainfall, making it the ideal time for outdoor and water-based activities. Conversely, the wet season, from May to November, sees higher rainfall and is known for its surfing conditions and opportunities to spot marine life like manta rays and whale sharks, as the sea is richer in plankton. Travel to the Maldives: Personal Experience in January

Our visit in January capitalized on the dry season’s pleasant weather and low rainfall, making it an exceptional time for snorkeling, diving, and soaking up the sun, confirming the Maldives as an idyllic holiday setting.

Our trip was based on exploring each day a different island and also diving in the beautiful water. The aquatic fauna is the best part for me, the biodiversity of fish, coral and large animals like friendly sharks, rays, tortoise, etc. Makes it a paradise on earth.

We only got one day of raining in the week long trip. But it is not a problem since we took advantage of the situation and went scuba diving that day. It does not matter if it rains when you are under water. The sun is still very hot in January and applying sunscreen is a must every day. We got burned the last day because we ran out of sunscreen and we forgot to buy a new one at the local pharmacy.

Be very aware of the sun! People are usually not careful and get really burned the first day of their trip and then their whole trip is ruined, since a severe burn can mean that you can no longer go to the beaches, or have to go to the hospital to get treated. Do not expect to be burned the same way you would in your country since the sun in Maldives is very abrasive.
