Best Beaches in Costa Brava 2023
Costa Brava is one of the most beautiful costs of Spain, located in the northern part of Catalunya. As a local, I feel obligated to share the beauties that this coast hides with the rest of the world. Here I have compiled my 10 favorite and most beautiful beaches in Costa Brava.
Take into account that the Costa Brava 214 km (133 miles) so the beaches listed below are far apart one from another. So if I were you I would go to the nearest one on the list, as all of them are unique. I always encourage tourists to go to different beaches every day on your stay in Costa Brava and get to experience the different towns and wonders of the Costa Brava.
First I have to let you know about the difference between a beach and cala, a cala is a small beach, it is usually more difficult to access and therefore is not as overcrowded as the main beaches like Lloret beach or the Palamós beach. The best beaches in Costa Brava differ from person to person depending on your taste, in this list I compiled a bit of everything so you can choose the best option for you.
1. Cala Joncols
Cala Joncols is one of my favorite calas to go, it is a bit remote so it is not to crowded. You must have a car to go there as it is to far to go walking. It is approximately 30 min from Roses and 40 min from Cadaqués by car. This is probably the best well known cala in Cap de Creus.
The beach is made out of little rocks that won’t hurt your feet. It is not a sand beach, so if you are looking for a sand beach I would stay in the beaches near Roses. Cala Joncols is definitely one of the best beaches in Costa Brava.
It has a couple restaurants so you can buy yourself a snack but I recommend bringing your own drinks and food. Carry a bag to bring home the trash, as these beaches are clean and they should keep this way.
The beaches between Roses and Cadaqués are usually crowded but not overcrowded, Cala Joncols is one of the main beaches in this area, so there are fantastic alternatives, on your way to Cala Joncols you will see from the car beautiful calas on the right sight, people usually stop at one with less people.

2. Cala Montjoi
Cala Montjoi was famous for a long time for the restaurant el Bulli which was open on the cala from 1962 to 2011. It was considered the world’s best restaurants the years 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. This restaurant is now closed. Cala Montjoi is still a beautiful, the beach is made out of sand with many small rocks. The beach is orientated to the east so the Tramuntana, the predominant wind of the Costa Brava that comes from the north does not affect so much these beaches.
Great options, that are near Cala Montjoi are Cala Murtra and Cala Rostella.

In this area there are many great beaches, in this list I have put three of the best beaches in Costa Brava from this area of the Cap de Creus. Its natural beauty and wilderness, away from the main cities makes them more authentic and unique. I encourage you to visit the area so you can see for yourself all the beautiful beaches that Cap de Creus has to offer.
3. Canyelles Petites
Canyelles Petites is a beach located in Roses, Alt Empordà, not to be confused with the village Canyelles located next to Sitges.
Canyelles Petites is a charming sandy beach, characterized by its gentle crescent shape and pristine turquoise waters. Of this list Canyelles Petites is the one with the best sand, although it is located in Roses, in the urbanized area, the sand is impecable and is very easily accessible by car given that there is parking just on top of it.
A row of charming beachfront restaurants and cafes are available. These establishments offer a delightful range of local cuisine.
4. Sa Tuna
Sa Tuna is known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, rugged cliffs, and charming fishing village atmosphere. The beach itself is relatively small, with a mixture of sand and pebbles, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and swimming. The surrounding cliffs offer protection from wind and waves, creating a tranquil and calm environment.
The beach is backed by a small fishing village, which adds to its unique charm. You’ll find whitewashed houses, narrow winding streets, and traditional fishing boats dotting the shoreline. The village has a few seafood restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy local cuisine and soak in the laid-back atmosphere. It is my favourite beach near Begur, it is quite exclusive, given that there is parking but no a lot, and the beach is not massive so be aware if you plan to go late in the morning in summer it will be full.
Sa Tuna Beach is also popular among snorkelers and scuba divers due to its rich marine life and clear waters. Exploring the underwater world here can be a rewarding experience.
As you can see in the photo below taken on a cloudy day of spring, the beach is made of small rocks. The first photo I took was the one on the entry of the pathway to the beach with the Sa Tuna sign. Given the beautiful scenery Sa Tuna is one of the best beaches in Costa Brava for sure.
5. Treumal Beach
Treumal beach is a beach located on the border between the municipalities of Lloret de Mar and Blanes, on the Costa Brava South. It is a beach of fine sand, about 400 meters long and 10% slope. It has all kinds of services, equipment, signposting and leisure activities.
It fascinated me with the color of the water, truth be told is a beach that I have only gone once, but it was very beautiful, and is my favorite of the southern part of the Costa Brava. It is way better than the beaches of Lloret and Blanes because they are so populated. This beach is a great alternative if you are visiting the area. For my the quality of the water combined with the natural scenery on crowded area makes it one of the best beaches in Costa Brava.
