How much is hot air balloon in Cappadocia?
Hot air balloons are one of the best activities you can do in the region of Cappadocia. You have to wake up very early around 4 AM but it is totally worth it in our opinion.
According to our experience in august 2023 the prices were around 250 €/person. There are cheaper options for 150 €/person, but we do not recommend taking these as the basket or gondola of the balloon of the cheaper rides were too full of people and it diminishes their experience.
There were even hot air balloons for around 300€ and more, these are too expensive and you will not get anything more than the ones for 250€.
Is it safe to ride a hot air balloon in Cappadocia?
Hot air balloons are very safe. One of the only things you have to make sure is that the company which you purchase the ride is certified. We were told that there are companies that are not certified and that the clients have to judge for themselves, these companies will offer cheaper prices (around 150€/person).
Another issue that they had in the past that now is totally solved is the wind. There was an accident with an air balloon ride on October 2022 where two people ride and three got heavily injured, caused by the wind. Since that accident they monitor the wind a lot more. If there is expected to be strong wind, they cancel all the balloon rides for three days, so another accident like that one does not occur again. That is great because no matter how much is hot air balloon in Cappadocia if it is not safe.
We felt very safe all the time, everything was very well organized from the pick up at the hotel until we were returned to the hotel. All of our friends that ride the hot air balloons in Cappadocia said in was a great experience, some of them got a bit sick because of the altitud, although they do not very high up in the sky.
Where to stay in Cappadocia for hot air balloon
We stayed in the Ramada by Wyndham Cappadocia a 5 star hotel located near the village of Ortahisar Belediyesi and Göreme. It is very well situated, altough you will need a taxi to go to the nearby villages, these are cheap as it will only cost you around 3$.
From the city of Göreme is were the majority of the hot air balloons take of, so anywhere near that city is fine. The area is very touristic so you will not have any problem finding a place to stay.
Is it worth a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia for 250€?
People thing that because there is so many ballons taking off at the same time is not going to be as special. But quite the contrary, in our opinion one of the most beautiful things was apart from the lanscape obiously, the sheer cuantity of balloons in the air. It makes quite a spectacle.
In our opinion, 250€ is the price you should aim for when purchasing a balloon ride in Cappadocia. It is totally worth it as it is a once in a lifetime experience and you will probably never go back to Cappadocia.
We do not recommend trying cheaper companies as we heard of people that got problems in having the money return when the flight was canceled because of wind.

Is it worth a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia for 150€?
In our opinion, the hot air balloon in Cappadocia in the 250€/person range was way better. We did not have to wake up as early because our balloon ride was closer to Göreme, the basket or gondola of the balloon was not as full. Plus, we felt secure in the team managing the hot air balloon.
The people that purchased the cheaper version of 150€ were stuck with odder people in the basket, like a can of sardines and did not get to enjoy that much the ride.
So in our opinion, spend a bit more, make sure your company is certified and you will get to enjoy the experience way more.
To Conclude:
On how much is hot air balloon in Cappadocia, we recommend spending around 250-300€, for less than that you are sacrificing confort inside of the balloon or possibly risking not getting your money back in the case of the ride being canceled.
It is an experience that we recommend to everyone that does not fear heights and visits the region of Cappadocia, and if you do not want to ride in the hot air balloons, go the a rooftop and take some pictures of the spectacle.
Oh and do not purchase the video that will be offered of you at the end of the ride, take your own pictures and videos. It is not worth the 30€ in our opinion. Plus you can always make a pot with the other members of the ride and share the pen drive with the video.
