Turkish rugs have long held a place of honor in the world of art and craftsmanship. In the heart of Cappadocia, I had the privilege of exploring the very essence of this art form. Join me on a journey as we delve into the rich history, craftsmanship, and enduring appeal that make Turkish rugs renowned worldwide.

We visited a Turkish Rugs shop in Cappadocia, which was a fascinating founding. The got to witness a woman weaving a ruge, she was very fast, weaving a lot of nots per minute. But even at the velocities that they weave, the rugs take months to be completed.

Visit a Turkish Rug Shop

Visiting a Turkish rug shop in my opinion is worth it if you have a guide, or the owner of the shop explains to you or the group the different type of rugs and the history of them. Also the rugs in Cappadocia are part of the culture, the man must know how to do sculptures and the woman how to do rugs before they get married.

They have a lot of different types of rugs, different materials and different levels of difficulty. The price goes according to the material and difficulty, so if the rug took 5 months it is going to cost around 600€, but when the rug gets bigger the price goes up exponentially.

Even if you do not buy any rug, it is worth visiting a rug shop as it is an art in itself. The woman there are true artists with the cotton and the silk. Also we were told that the people in the prison make rugs as an activity.

  • Make sure to negotiate with the vendor, as the initial price can be highly reduced. I managed to get half the initial price, so do not accept the first price that they give you.

Check out the tribalcollectionscarpets in Göreme in the heart of Cappadocia. Make sure to get an explanation of the different rugs, as it is fascinating.

It is totally worth visiting in our opinion, you have to treat it as a learning experience of the culture of the region. Many people get annoyed because the people there will try to sell you Turkish rugs but you have to understand that it is a very turistic area and it is their means to make ends meet.
